Ancre Hill Estates Awards

We are dedicated to producing wines of only the highest quality, utilising traditional viticultural practices to produce the best possible fruit from varieties with great heritage.

Planting a vineyard is a long term investment. For example some of our Sparkling Cuvees will be left on their lees for a minimum of 5 years and, after disgorgement, receive another six months bottle ageing before release.  Similarly some of our finest Pinot Noirs will be left to mature in oak barrel and later, bottle, before release.

We are passionate about winemaking and will continue to push the boundaries. We specialize in Quality Sparkling wines, produced in the true champenoise style, some barrel fermented and all cuvees lees aged for a minimum of 2 years.

We made our first Pinot Noir red in 2009 following a perfect summer, producing excellent sugar and acidity levels and tannic ripeness.  With fastidious work in the vineyard, we believe the production of world class Pinot Noir is achievable from our vineyards in all but the very worst of years.

Delicious still rose and still whites complement our production portfolio.

Blanc de Noirs 2010

Vintage Notes

2010 was a large crop due to the exceptional weather at bud initiation between bud-burst and flowering in 2009. The number of hours sunshine throughout the 2010 growing season was good and yet there was enough rainfall for adequate nutrient uptake. Harvest was the beginning of October in fine weather. Sugar and acidity levels were slightly above average. The quality of the fruit was exceptional, with no disease issues whatsoever.

Tasting Notes

Pale gold with copper tones. Delicate nose of ripe citrus and wild strawberries. Ripe red apples and soft Summer fruit burst on to the palate, complemented by crisp, clean acidity. Delicate mousse with razor sharp finish.

Pinot Noir / Seyval Blanc 2008

Vintage Notes

2008 was our first harvest. Conditions were good for all the major physiological stages of grape growing. A small first crop combined good sugar and acidity levels. Fruit was of very good quality with no disease issues. The straight Seyval blanc sparkling from this vintage was voted the best sparkling wine in the world at the Bollicine del mondo in 2009.

Tasting Notes

Pale straw with hints of Autumn sunshine. Fresh citrus and candied peel nose with brioche notes. Fresh sweet apple and lime on the palate with hints of red currant and biscuit. Crisp but balanced acidity, delicate mousse with a refreshing, clean finish. This wine is made to last and will continue to improve for the next 3 years.

Sparkling Rosé 2010

Vintage Notes

2010 was a large crop due to the exceptional weather at bud initiation between bud-burst and flowering in 2009. This combined with an earlyish harvest meant that anthocyanin extraction was less than normal for the Sparkling Rosé.

Very pale salmon pink with notes of straw. A soft nose of citrus, strawberries and bready Summer fruits pudding. Lovely ripe citrus fruit, wild strawberries & cream on the palate with hints of vanilla. Soft persistent mousse with a soft and clean finish and delicate acidity.

Technical Data

66.6% Pinot noir / 33.3% Chardonnay
11.5% ABV
RS: 6.4g/l BRUT
TA: 6.6g/l T

Rosé 2013

Vintage Notes

2013 was a large crop despite 2 poor seasons in 2011 and 2012. A late spring gave way to exceptional weather May through to the beginning of August. Dull mornings through August and September combined with the late start to the season meant harvest was late, beginning October 28th. Sugar and acidity levels were slightly above average and the quality of the fruit was exceptional, with no disease issues whatsoever. 2013 was the first fully certified organic harvest at the estate.

Tasting Notes

A smoked-salmon pink colour draws you in to the nose of citrus flower, wild strawberry and ice-cream. Crisp, clean acidity on the palate with notes of red currants, lemon peel and pink grapefruit.

Technical Data

15% Triomphe / 85% Pinot noir
11% ABV
RS: <1g/l
TA: 10.4g/l T
Total Sulphur: 54mg/l
Fermented in stainless steel with natural yeast. Limited sulphur used at press and again at bottling with wine left on gross lees for 9 months, limited MLF without inoculation.
